Hi-Tech Angling Edge

With this new Apex MFD from Humminbird, the fish will never see you coming – until it’s too late for them

The Humminbird Apex

Anglers looking for a technology advantage should check out Apex, the latest and greatest multifunction display (MFD) from Humminbird. Available in 13-, 16-, and 19-inch displays, all Apex units show you the fish in a dazzling 1920 x 1080 HD detail. And you get multiple methods of searching for those scaled critters, with Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar and MEGA Imaging+ side- and down-imaging.

The high-resolution imaging reaches 250 feet down and 250 feet out to either side, while standard sonar views can hit 1,200 feet – and with an optional Airmar CHIRP SM3000, all the way down to 5,000 feet. You also get a choice when it comes to how you interface with the units, as the CrossTouch system includes both customizable touch screen and keypad interfaces.

Naturally, these units are fully networkable and NMEA2000 compatible. But they’re also compatible with CZone Contact 6, and Contact 6 Plus digital switching. In fact, the list of features and functions goes on and on with these units: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are built in, dual ethernet ports eliminate the need for an external hub, and Humminbird’s One Boat Network integrates control of Minn Kota iPilot Link trolling motors, shallow water anchors, and Cannon Optimum downriggers. Expandability extends to radar, Fusion audio, autopilot, and VHF systems. The Apex also offers Navionics Plotter Synch functionality. And you can display camera and video sources via HDMI.

Out-of-the-box Apex units are preloaded with Humminbird cartography (both CoastMaster and LakeMaster), and coverage is expandable with Navionics. Even better for anglers, you can use AutoChart Live to create highly detailed bathymetric maps of your favorite fishing grounds in real time – including data on bottom hardness and vegetation.

You say you want to be an apex predator out on the water? The Humminbird Apex may be your ultimate weapon. Price: $3,699 – $4,999.
