The Moorings Opens New U.S.-Based Charter Destination

Charter industry leader adds a second Florida operation to its portfolio in 2021, touts other COVID-era options.

Sunset sail off Key West

The Moorings yacht charter company has established charter operations in Key West, Florida, beginning in the 2021 charter season. In partnership with Florida Yachts Charters, a variety of charter options will be available, with both bareboat and skippered yacht charters available aboard sailing catamarans and monohulls, as well as power cats. This new base joins The Moorings' list of destinations now available for charters in 2021.

"We are thrilled to launch Key West as our newest destination," says Josie Tucci, VP of Sales and Marketing. "Yacht charters in Florida have proven to be an appealing option for our guests since the launch of the St. Petersburg operation last year. More than ever, travelers are looking for easy vacation options close to home, and these Florida charter options offer the unique flair of a yacht charter vacation right here in America's backyard."

The Moorings' new operation in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) has less-strict protocols than the British Virgin Islands. "As a result the USVI have been perhaps our most popular destination over the past few months since it was opened," adds Ian Pedersen, Senior Marketing Manager for The Moorings and Sunsail. "Other accessible destinations right now include Tahiti, Belize, the Exumas, Bahamas, and our other Florida operation in St. Petersburg."

Accessible by car, by plane or by ferry, Key West has long been a sought-after destination for vacationers and boaters alike, boasting incredible scenery both on the water and on shore. The Moorings' charter operation will be located at Ocean's Edge Marina & Resort and at Stock Island Marina Village.

From Key West — the southernmost point in the continental U.S. — guests are free to explore the expansiveness of the Florida Keys, from the bustling nightlife of Key West's Mallory Square and Duval Street, to the laid-back atmospheres of Marathon and Islamorada. The Dry Tortugas National Park to the west is also a popular bucket list destination for many boaters.
