SPRINGFIELD, Va., June 15, 2023 – Five locally owned and operated TowBoatUS on-water towing companies in Florida, New York, North Carolina and Ohio are celebrating their 30th anniversaries of helping recreational boaters get home safely after unexpected breakdowns or running aground.

It’s estimated that in the past three decades, these five TowBoatUS companies combined have provided more than 37,000 on-water tows, ungroundings, jump-starts, and fuel drop-offs to recreational boaters and BoatUS members at all hours of day and night.

“That represents an incredible number of boaters over the years who were able to get TowBoatUS assistance when they most needed it, getting them back to the dock, off a shoal, or delivering some fuel to get them home” said Heather Lougheed, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) vice president of Membership. “These companies have worked hard to contribute to their local boating communities, and this anniversary milestone reflects their care for the boaters and anglers they serve.”

TowBoatUS companies and owners celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2023 include:

Florida: TowBoatUS Pensacola; Capts. Mac, Miles and Kathy Mclean

New York: TowBoatUS City Island; Capts. Danny and Lucas Cavaluzzi

New York: TowBoatUS Oyster Bay; Capt. Mitch Kramer

North Carolina: TowBoatUS River Forest; Capt. Axson Smith

Ohio: TowBoatUS South Shore; Capt. Vernon Mienke

BoatUS began its on-water towing service, similar to an auto club for boaters, in 1987, after the Association’s futile attempts at fighting Federal budget cuts for nonemergency towing services provided by the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary at the time. Today, TowBoatUS is the largest on-water recreational boat towing fleet in the nation with more than 300 locations and 600 towboats that respond 24/7 to more than 90,000 requests for routine assistance each year.
