SHINNECOCK, NY, September 14, 2010 – TowBoatUS Shinnecock/Moriches, NY, the on-the-water towing company that helps boaters get safely home after a breakdown or grounding, has new owners. Capt. William and Joanne Jayne have purchased the business from Capt. Bob Jacoby, who will remain with the company as a hired captain.

TowBoatUS Shinnecock/Moriches has two locations. The Shinnecock port is located at Hampton Boat Works in Hampton Bay. By water it is adjacent to Shinnecock Bay buoy #15. The Moriches port is located at Moriches Bay Marina in Mastic Beach, which the Jaynes also own. “Although we’ve had TowBoatUS located in our marina for the last four years, we are excited to call it ‘our own’ and add it to the list of services we offer local boaters and anglers,” said Joanne. To see the location on a map, visit the Member Services Locator at BoatUS.com.

Recreational boaters and anglers can call the towing company day or night at 631-281-1246 to get assistance and tows back to a launch ramp, home dock or marina.  They may also hail the company on VHF radio on channel 16; or call the BoatUS toll-free Dispatch Service at 800-391-4869.

The Jaynes are native Long Islanders and came to the Moriches area seven years ago, but Captain “Bill” has spent his summers on area waters since he was a child.  He is also a certified diver.

Joanne says that there is a great deal of shoaling in the Moriches Inlet and Bay area, which creates difficulty for local boaters and anglers as well as for boats just passing through. “We’re happy to get calls to share our local knowledge and keep boaters safe.”

The business has three response vessels that rotate through the two ports. They are a 25-foot Pacemaker, and 21- and 25-foot Aquasports. All are ready to go at a moment's notice and fully rigged for marine towing and salvage work, including extra fuel, engine fluids, pumps, dive gear and battery "jump packs" to handle dead batteries. The towboats can be identified by their distinctive red hulls, white bow stripes and "TowBoatUS" lettering along their sides.

BoatUS offers "Unlimited" on-the-water towing plans for coastal salt and brackish waters for just $149 a year, which includes BoatUS membership. Without a towing plan, boaters face costs that nationally average about $600 per incident. Visit http://www.BoatUS.com/towing for more information.
