Bridge of Lions, St. Augustine, Florida:

Channel restrictions begin this coming Monday, September 14, 2009. Construction crews reserve the right to restrict the channel to 35 feet horizontal clearance between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. This will continue through October 30, 2009.

Construction crews also reserve the right to close the channel at night beginning October 1, 2009 and continuing each night 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. through October 30, 2009.

These restrictions have been reviewed and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. The restrictions are necessary for testing machinery and aligning the center span sections of the rehabilitated Bridge of Lions, which is anticipated to open near the end of 2009.

Moore Haven Lock Closure Continues:

NOTICE TO NAVIGATION INTERESTS
OKEECHOBEE WATERWAY, FLORIDA

1. Update to Moore Haven Lock Re-Opening Date - It has become necessary to extend the Moore Haven Lock closure for an additional 2 week period of time, to at least 28 September, 2009. This unfortunate extension is required in order to complete additional mechanical repairs to the lock gates that were not previously known. Moore Haven Lock is over 70 yrs old, and because of this age, while in a dewatered condition, necessary repairs have been identified that if not made, could lead to failure of the gates and extended closures in the near future. The repair crews are and will be working extended hours to complete these repairs and have the lock back in operation as soon as possible. Please call the South Florida Operations Office at 863 983 8101 or the number above for the latest information regarding the lock status. Information will also be updated on the link provided as soon as known.

  1. (Moore Haven Lock): Moore Haven Lock will remain closed until September 28, 2009. Date is tentative.
  2. During the scheduled maintenance event above, crossing the state via the OWW will not be possible until the work is completed.

2. Additional information concerning Lake Okeechobee and the adjoining waterway may be obtained by accessing the Jacksonville District web site at http://www.saj.usace.army.mil and choosing the OPERATIONS DIVISION tab and selecting the NOTICE TO NAVIGATION from the pull down menu.
