Update on North Myrtle Beach Connector Bridge construction, ICW Mile 348.3 and the Fantasy Harbor Bridge construction, ICW Mile 367, and Lady’s Island Bridge, Mile 536:
After receiving conflicting information from official and local sources as to which bridges will be in which phase of construction and when there will be closures of the ICW in the Rock Pile area of South Carolina, I hope to have sorted out the misinformation
I spoke with a SCDOT official from the office in charge of each bridge. I was told that the North Myrtle Beach Connector Bridge at Mile 348.3 is in the girder placement phase now and the waterway may be closed for an hour at a time at high tide for girder placement. It will be partially obstructed at other times, but boats should be able to get through.
The report from the SCDOT on the Fantasy Harbour Bridge at Mile 367 is that it may be closed for up to 72 hours total between now and the end of January. This total will be divided up into smaller periods, and will not begin until likely sometime in the week of Dec. 15-19, although a decision has not yet been made. I was told that the reported closure on Dec. 03 will not take place.
The bridge tender at the Lady’s Island Bridge at Mile 536 reports as of 3:30 this afternoon, December 1, 2008 that he is still opening twice a day at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. and does not know how much longer it will take to have the gears repaired and get the bridge back on its regular schedule.
